French satellite startup Unseenlabs to launch two new satellites to enhance maritime surveillance

Boat at sea

The satellites, BRO-10 and BRO-11 will be launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

The new satellites will join Unseenlabs’ existing constellation of 10 satellites, which are used to track ships at sea using radio frequency (RF) signals. Unseenlabs’ technology is unique because it can track ships even if their transponders are turned off.

This capability makes Unseenlabs’ technology valuable for maritime stakeholders, including insurers. Insurers can use Unseenlabs’ data to track the location of their clients’ ships and assess risk. For example, insurers can use Unseenlabs’ data to identify ships that are sailing in high-risk areas or that are engaging in risky activities.

In addition to insurers, Unseenlabs’ technology is also used by governments, NGOs, and other organisations to monitor maritime activity. For example, Unseenlabs’ data can be used to track illegal fishing, smuggling, and other illicit activities at sea.

The launch of BRO-10 and BRO-11 will significantly enhance Unseenlabs’ maritime surveillance capabilities. The new satellites will allow Unseenlabs to track more ships and to provide more accurate and timely data to its clients.

Here are some of the benefits of Unseenlabs’ technology for insurers:

  • Improved risk assessment: Unseenlabs’ data can help insurers to better understand and assess the risks associated with their clients’ shipping activities. This can help insurers to set premiums more accurately and to develop more effective risk management strategies.
  • Reduced fraud: Unseenlabs’ data can help insurers to detect fraudulent claims. For example, insurers can use Unseenlabs’ data to verify the location of a ship at the time of a claim.
  • Improved customer service: Unseenlabs’ data can help insurers provide better customer service to their clients. For example, insurers can use Unseenlabs’ data to track the location of a client’s ship and to provide updates on its arrival time.
